More details on the variables

  • The variables of the acid deposition scenarios are sulphur (S) and nitrogen (N) deposition either as absolute values (unit: gm-2year-1) or as the change relative to the baseline period (unit: gm-2year-1).
  • The variables of the atmospheric composition scenarios are CO2 (unit: ppm) and the ozone exposure expressed as AOT40 for forests (unit: ppb.h). AOT40 is calculated here as the sum of the exceedence of ozone exposure to a threshold value of 40 ppb during daylight hours between April and September.
  • The variables of the socio-economic and technological scenarios are the population in Finland and the gross domestic product (GDP) for Finland (unit: billion US$). Sources: Scenario data are downscaled projections taken from the Socioeconomic Data of the IPCC Data Distribution Centre. Historical data were provided by Statistics Finland. Real GDP is shown at market prices US$ (1990 the base year). GDP (markkas/euros) in every year has been converted to US$ with the 1990 (mean) exchange rate (pers. comm. O. Savela, Statistics Finland, 2002).
  • The variables of the climate change scenarios are temperature and precipitation change with a baseline of the 1961-1990 period (units: °C and %, resp.).
  • The variable of the sea level scenarios is the sea level at selected location at the Finnish coast (unit: metres).
